Looking for the perfect place for your next weekend getaway? Putnam County just might be that place! We’ve got more than enough to do to make your trip worthwhile, and in this blog post we’ll be laying out the must-sees and the must-dos for the ultimate weekend trip, so pack your bags and we’ll see you soon!
Where to stay:
For where to stay during your trip, we’re highlighting two great options. Both are Bed & Breakfast style, but they’re in two completely different settings, so we’ll let you choose in order to tailor your trip to your tastes.
The first is Doc’s Inn, a 100-year-old Queen Victorian home located in downtown Greencastle. The Inn offers three good-sized rooms for guests, each furnished with lovely antique décor, and has a large area downstairs to entertain. It’s located in a historic district just one block from the Square and the DePauw University campus, so there is plenty to do within walking distance. In addition, an innkeeper is there to help with all your needs. If you’re looking to stay in the middle of the action during your trip, this is a must!
The second option is Harvest Moon Bed & Breakfast, an upscale B&B in a beautiful country setting that would be made all the more gorgeous with the fall colors! Located just eight minutes from Greencastle, it’s close enough to everything but far enough out to offer some relaxation, if that’s what you’re after. The home itself is gorgeous, filled with modern décor and updated amenities for its guests. If you want a luxurious weekend getaway filled with peace and quiet, Harvest Moon is your go-to!
Where to Shop:
While there’s no shortage of places to shop in Putnam County, if you’re making a trip to see us in the fall, RTM Unique Country Gifts & Garden Shop is the place to go. Located right at the busiest intersection in Cloverdale, it’s a hard to miss spot offering an abundance of unique gifts, home décor, outdoor and garden items, and especially seasonal treats, including fall staples like pumpkins, mums, and gourds. RTM is just a fun place to shop, as you never know what kind of neat gift or keepsake you’ll find. It’s enough to make you want to come back year-round to see what each season has to offer at RTM!
Where to eat:
In Putnam County, there’s absolutely no shortage of great places to get a bite to eat, but while you’re here, make sure to try out Almost Home. It’s been a Putnam County staple for nearly three decades! It’s located in a gorgeous old building right off the square, making for a unique setting in which to enjoy some truly delicious food. The restaurant is true to its name—you’ll feel like you’re quite at home with the casual but classy atmosphere, the large portions, and the friendly staff. Oh, and the dessert! Almost Home is a must-try and the perfect way to round out your perfect weekend trip.
What to do:
Check out the rest of our blogs for more fun things to do while in town, but if you’re looking for a great way to spend your day outdoors during your trip, the Depauw University Nature Park is just the place! It’s located just minutes from downtown Greencastle, but the unmatched scenery makes it seem much farther out! The 520-acre park is an old, defunct quarry that is now home to hiking trails, a pond, and plenty of wildlife for you to see. It’s definitely a well-kept secret of ours, and it’s a must-see when in town! Happy Hiking!
We hope you enjoy this curated list of must-sees, must-dos, and must-eats during your trip to Putnam County. These are just a few, so come see what else we have to offer! See you soon!
