The biscuits and gravy for breakfast are as good as the pizza, mostaccioli, salad, a strombolli, steak, or sandwich for lunch or dinner.
JoRuth and Frankie Cancilla opened Mama Nunz in 1952. Named for JoRuth, the “Mama,” and the couple’s new son, Nunzio, Mama Nunz was, and continues to be, one of two Greencastle eateries that puts both the “college” and “town” in this college town.
In the late ’70s and 80’s, Mama Nunz was in the lower level of DePauw’s Memorial Union Building, where Frankie and JoRuth built a large student clientele and Nunzio was a delivery boy. Having moved to Main Street, today Nunzio owns and manages the restaurant just like his parents. The portions are large. The staff is exceedingly friendly. The food is exceptional.
