The National Road Heritage Trail hosts its final bike ride in the 2019 six-ride series. The route will span most of the width of Putnam County, giving both casual and serious cyclists first-hand views of the open sections of the Putnam County segment of this cross-state trail and the opportunity to enjoy local culture.
In this instance, local culture means the 60th Annual Fillmore Volunteer Fire Dept Chicken BBQ, which is adjacent to the Vandalia Trail section of the bike route.
The ride will begin by crossing Greencastle on the new, paved Campus Link Trail, then on the shoulders of Veterans’ Memorial Highway.
The ride then will explore the beautiful packed stone Putnam Nature Trail, then return to the start point and head east on the scenic packed stone Vandalia Trail to the Hendricks County Line, stopping at the Fillmore VFD Annual Chicken BBQ for lunch along the way.
Total ride length will be 30 miles, 20 on packed stone and 10 on pavement.
