Take a unique tour of People Pathways with Erin Basiger, naturalist at Deer Creek Fish & Wildlife Area. Bike around Greencastle and learn about wetland plants, prairie grass and invasive species. Maps and water bottles will be handed out, as well as a stamp card to enter the drawing for a free rain barrel! Participants visiting all educational sites will be entered in the rain barrel drawing.
Riders/Hikers will stop at several educational sites to learn about conservation practices around Putnam County. Some of the conservation site topics include Habitats on Your Property, Prairie Grasses/Pollinator Habitat, Bicycle Safety & People Pathways, Birding, and Storm Water Drainage. There also will be free trees available courtesy of Buzzi Unicem USA.
Participants should park and start their bike or hike at either Ivy Tech Community College or Big Walnut Sports Park. The route is approximately two miles one way. This event is sponsored by Big Walnut Watershed Alliance, City of Greencastle and the Sustainability Commission, Indiana DNR, DePauw University, Indiana Invasives Initiative, Ivy Tech Community College, People Pathways, Purdue Extension, and the Putnam County Soil & Water Conservation District.
