The September First Friday always is a don’t-miss because it’s the annual Taste of Putnam County! Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the finest food purveyors from all corners of the county set up shop on the Courthouse Square and make it incredibly difficult for guests to decide what to have as part of their multi-course dinner.
Making this month’s event even more special is the Instrument Petting Zoo at Music on the Square. Ever wanted to hold a tuba that is bigger than you? Or wondered how violins make their beautiful sound? Or felt like rocking out on the drums? “The Zoo” lets everyone get up close and personal with the instruments that create joyful music. Learn about the history, sound and purpose of each instrument while getting to play them yourself!
Sponsored by Main Street Greencastle, First Friday is a once-a-month celebration of local culture. Franklin and Indiana streets, around the Greencastle Courthouse Square, are closed for multiple music stages on which multiple live performers and bands play all evening. Each First Friday has a theme, and all feature local foods and plenty for children to enjoy. Guests certainly are welcome, and admission is free.
