Mia Alvar, whose collection of short stories, In the Country, won the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction, the University of Rochester’s Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize and the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Book Review and The Missouri Review, among others. She lives in Los Angeles, and her Kelly Writers Series presentation is Wed, Oct 2, at 7:30 p.m., in the Peeler Art Center Auditorium. Admission is free, and all are invited.
The Kelly Writers Series brings world-renowned poets, playwrights and authors of fiction and nonfiction to DePauw for readings and discussion. Alvar is the third in the four-author Fall 2019 series which, on Nov. 20, concludes with Marcelo Hernandez Castillo, author of Cenzontle, which received the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writer Award for poetry and was listed among one of NPR’s top picks of 2018.
