When he was five, Yousuf Ali Khan began concentrating on the percussion instrument, the tabla (pictured above). His keen interest led him to leave home and study in Calcutta.
Tanim Hayat Khan started his musical journey at the age of 15 when HE started taking formal tabla percussion lessons, along with lessons on acoustic and bass guitar, in Bangladesh.
Ustad Shahadat Hossain Khan is presently the most celebrated sarod player in Bangladesh, possessing a wide repertoire of classical instrumental music.
Playing as one, the three are the Khan Trio, performing as part of DePauw’s Performing Arts Series Nov 25, at 7:30 p.m., in Thompson Recital Hall, inside the Green Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is free, and all are invited.
