Warm up with a winter concert from the producers of the Greencastle Summer Music Festival. Titled “Sweet and Savory Treats,” this free concert offers three sets featuring contemporary pianist/composer Cathie Malach (one of last summer’s biggest hits), Steve Snyder and Sandy Williams (jazz piano and guitar), DePauw percussion professor Ming-Hui Kuo joined by School of Music percussion alum Josiah Rushing, and legendary pianist Claude Cymerman performing with festival founder, and cellist, Eric Edberg.
The two intermissions between the three sets offer refreshments and a silent-auction fundraiser to benefit the Festival endowment. Auction items include a house concert (at your house) with cellist Eric Edberg or Black Market Vinyl; gift certificates from Almost Home Restaurant, Bridges Craft Pizza and Wine Bar and Moore’s Bar; photos, books, and gourd artwork by Stu Fabe; yoga classes with Marla Helton; a massage session with Cathie Malach; Tad Robinson CDs; a framed photograph by local artist Lynne Tweedie; artwork by local artist Martha Opdahl; a drum circle with Beth Benedix and Shem Rees; and baked goods from Susannah Hardesty and Barbara South.
The 12-week Festival, which will launch its 16th season this summer, presents concerts from Memorial Day through mid-August performed by professional musicians from the region, as well as national and international artists. It also provides educational programming for the Summer Enrichment Program, hosted by Gobin Memorial Church, and this summer will offer additional events for people unable to attend concerts.
