Monthly Hiking Tour

May 13, 2023 9:00am - 10:00am

Putnam Parks & Pathways hosts a Monthly Hiking Tour Series that will highlight a variety of local trails, nature preserves, and parks. Guided by a professional in their field, each hike will consist of learning about some type of wildlife, native plant, or other nature-oriented discussions.

May’s hike will be an extremely special one, hosted in conjunction with the Central Indiana Land Trust. Our group will be touring the newly acquired Fern Station Nature Preserve, nearly 600 acres of beautiful Putnam County forest and natural area. This area is still very rugged, no true trails have been created or cleared yet, but this is an opportunity to take a guided tour through a portion of the preserve and discuss the potential of what is to come.

The nature hike will be hosted by Cliff Chapman from the Central Indiana Land Trust, CILTI preserves the best of Central Indiana’s natural areas, protecting plants and animals, so Hoosiers can experience the wonder of the state’s natural heritage. The Central Indiana Land Trust is using $3.1 million to help purchase and protect the Putnam County site called classic Indiana forestland, which serves as home to a number of rare and endangered species.

The group will meet at the following address, parking will just be along the roadway. Carpooling is encouraged due to limited space: 6741 W County Rd 275 S, Greencastle, IN 46135 – Click here to see the Google Map view.
