2023 Garden Fair

March 18, 2023 9:00am - 3:00pm

Bring your love of gardening to the Putnam County Fairgrounds in mid-March. Presentations start at 10:00 a.m. with Dolly Foster speaking about winter sowing, then at 11:30 a.m. there will be a panel discussion about vegetable gardening, and lastly, Seib Honey will speak at 1:30 p.m. about Pollinator Protection. In between, you can browse the area vendor area. Pick up free tree saplings, wander through the “Gardener’s Garage Sale”, or grab some food! There is an active kids area, so bring the young ones and enhance their enthusiasm for gardening and the outdoors.

Here is a list of the education events/speakers that will be present:

At 10 AM, accredited horticulturalist, Dolly Foster, will be teaching attendees how to winter sow seeds. Winter sowing works with nature to prepare and germinate seeds for the spring planting season. By winter sowing you are taking advantage of the natural temperatures and length of day to trigger germination. This is an easy, inexpensive and highly successful way to start seeds without a lot of indoor space or equipment.

Sit in and learn from a group of award-winning, highly successful vegetable gardeners at 11:30. They will share their tips and techniques on how to increase yields, fight pests and avoid diseases. Bring your questions and make this year’s vegetable harvest the best ever.

At 1:30 Mike Seib, of Seib’s Honey will be discussing how to draw bees into our garden and protect them so that the bees and your garden thrive.

This event is free, open to the public, and lasts all day. It is sponsored in part by the Purdue Extension Office and hosted by the Putnam County Master Gardener Association.
