Putnam Parks & Pathways will begin hosting a Monthly Hiking Tour Series that will highlight a variety of local trails, nature preserves, and parks. Guided by a professional in their field, each hike will consist of learning about some type of wildlife, native plant, or other nature-oriented discussions.
At Fortune Woods, the initially-grassy Tall Timbers Trail leads from field to ridgetop, offering aerial views of Big Walnut Creek. Immediately you’re both in the treetops and at the base of glacial-relic sentinels of a virgin forest. The trail’s two-mile loop gently slopes to the creek-bed, and stairs lead back up on an adjacent ridge.
