Putnam Parks & Pathways will begin hosting a Monthly Hiking Tour Series that will highlight a variety of local trails, nature preserves, and parks. Guided by a professional in their field, each hike will consist of learning about some type of wildlife, native plant, or other nature-oriented discussions.
The hike will start at the large parking lot before you cross the dam. We will hike the Tall Pines Trail, view the Spillway cut, and hike the Two Falls Trail. The Welch Woods Trail is open for anyone that would like a more challenging hike. The trail features views of limestone cliffs, intermittent streams, and towering beech, oak, hickory, and other trees.
There’s an interesting feature around every bend of the three trails at Cagles Mill Lake. From scenic lake views to towering trees to sheer rock walls, you’ll discover a fascinating woodland pocket at this US Army Corps of Engineers property near Cloverdale, Indiana. In 1952, Cagles Mill Lake was built as Indiana’s first flood control reservoir, protecting the Eel and White river watersheds.
