This is the 6th in the series of 6 monthly bike rides in 2023 by NRHT, Inc. to see firsthand the status of open sections of the cross-state National Road Heritage Trail & enjoy each section’s local culture. The 30-mile September ride will span most of the width of Putnam County featuring the packed stone Vandalia Trail & Putnam Nature Trail of the People Pathways system by Putnam Parks & Pathways, the paved Campus Link Trail of Greencastle Parks & Recreation, and some roads across the City of Greencastle. Please note that riders participate at their own risk & minors must be accompanied by an adult responsible for them.

The group will depart at 9:30 AM from the trailhead of the Vandalia Trail across SR 240 from Walmart on the east side of Greencastle. The ride will begin by crossing Greencastle on the paved Campus Link Trail, then on the shoulders of Veterans’ Memorial Highway. Southwest of Greencastle, we’ll explore the packed stone Putnam Nature Trail, then return to our start point and head east on the packed stone Vandalia Trail to the Hendricks County Line and back. 20 miles will be on packed stone and 10 miles on pavement. This also coincides with the Fillmore VFD Chicken BBQ, so options for refreshments include that event near the end of the ride &/or downtown Greencastle afterward.
This is a free event that is open to the public.
