Live, local theatre throughout the summer, in a beautiful and comfortable country setting.

For more than 50 years, June through September, the Playhouse presents two musicals and two plays in 16 weeks. Every other year, a children’s workshop/play is also produced and performed in the intimate 220-seat Hazel Day Longden Theatre.

The Putnam County Playhouse was organized in 1961 by a group whose motto was, “To provide the people of the county and the surrounding area with the opportunity to participate in and enjoy live theatre,” and for more than 50 years it has accomplished its mission.

The Youth Theatre Workshop, a permanent part of its program, gives younger members of the community the opportunity to learn about theater first-hand and appear in their own production. Many earn their chops and later appear in mainstage productions.

For performers, a rehearsal center and dressing room facility, an expanded shop, backstage area, costume loft, and band pit area, make the performances more meaningful for guests, who enjoy a state-of-the-art sound system and wireless microphones for all productions, the computer-controlled light board, and padded auditorium chairs.

Every season is imaginative and locally produced and acted. Individual performance tickets are very reasonable, as is the season pass. Put Yourself in Putnam County in the summer and be sure to put your hands together during a Putnam County Playhouse performance, or two, or four.
